The Problem of Female Literacy in India.
The development of any country is often assured through the economic growth, scientific and technological advances. Nowadays, women became an important potential resource in economic development of the country. They play crucial role in political and social reforms, and ensure the most efficient healthcare.
Female education is vital because women are wives and mothers. Hence, they determine the stability of their families and the development of their children’s personality.
Many studies have shown that the lower the educational level of the mother, the more number of children is born to her. Consequently, the greater are the risks of reproductive mortality.
In modern scientific and technological worlds education for women is very necessary to slower population growth. Indian government pays more attention to the goal of achieving the universal literacy among the people of India. However, illiteracy continues to grow in absolute numbers in India.
A considerable improvement in the literacy rates in India was noticed as this country became independent. Nevertheless, in spite of the literates’ rise the population of illiterate people continues increasing due to social and economic factors. On the other hand, illiterates became more because the population increased from 361 million to 83606 million during the same period. Hence, the absolute number of female illiterates increased, as well.
Female illiteracy prevails mainly in rural areas in India. According to recent estimates, nearly half of the total illiterate people in India are rural females.
In conclusion I may say that considerable efforts have been achieved towards the increasing of the absolute literacy in India since Independence. Over the decades there has been a significant rise in number and enrolment of girls in education.
In spite of impressive increase of female literacy, the highest amount of illiterates is found in the Hindi-belt states of Rajesthan, Bihar, Madhyapreadesh and Uttar Pradesh. These states account for the majority of female illiterates in India.
Thus, region and social groups is a very complicated question. These issues must be classified and solved in order to avoid the problem of illiteracy and ignorance of some groups of the society.
